The Art, Play and Significance of Being Real

By Danae Shanti, The “Real You” Coach

Stacy 1Have you ever had the experience of moving in with someone only to find they’re not the person you thought they were? If so, you’re not alone. When we get that close to another person, our masks come off, toes get stepped on, and our strengths and weaknesses reveal who we really are as individuals.

Learn to date consciously, and give a gift to yourself and your date by showing up honestly. Be who you naturally are. You’ve got nothing to lose.

Let me note here that being ourselves when there’s a hope for connection can be tricky if we’re caught up in trying to impress the date. Chances are better that you will be liked and appreciated for who you are whether it’s a match or not, if you’re just being yourself.

Some questions to ponder: Wouldn’t you enjoy being in a match that feels like it suits you, rather than forcing a connection because you’re lonely? Wouldn’t it be a relief to be honest about a date that doesn’t feel good and to show respect for yourself and your date by speaking your truth kindly? Wouldn’t it be freeing to speak the truth about what you want?

At TreeI’d like to suggest an approach to dating.  It is an art.  Approach dating with playful, open curiosity while resting in who you really are. You’ll find brightness in your mind and heart when dating this way. If you bring your genuine self to the date, you can sense whether you’d like to move forward or not.

The courageous dating person decides ahead of time that they will be true to their heart and show up in the truth of who they really are, regardless of the outcome. People who do this have a stronger commitment to authentic living than the need to impress. They trust in who they are and accept themselves as they are. This is a great place from which to meet someone new.

Remember this: When you are real, the connection will feel right or it won’t. You may need time to explore it and continue dating. The bottom line is that if an honest and authentic relationship is what you want then live your life that way. This will help you recognize another who is also living authentically.
