Conscious Dating: The Playing Field

By Danae Shanti, The “Real You” Coach

On your mark, get set……date!  Playing at dating is a new twist for the dating world.

I can respect if you want to meet for coffee and perhaps progress to that first full dinner.  These traditional approaches to dating are good steps.  But let me ask you, when was the last time you thought of going on a date as a play opportunity?

What if you simply go and have FUN?

Opportunities to play and laugh are something many adults don’t consider when venturing out to date.  They are usually focused on whether their date is a potential partner.  Where’s the innocence and free flowing spirit in that?

Imagine how stunted young children would be if they didn’t get in the sand box and play unless their playmate could be a potential “it.”  Kids never say, “I can’t share my digging rig with you because I don’t see a future here.”  They instinctively know they’ll only have fun if they hop into the sand and dance around.

40 - Ropes CourseWhy not take a walk on the wild side?  Play at dating!  People learn a lot about each other by playing together.  Dating does not have to be such a serious activity.  How about laser tag, a ballroom dancing class, or a structured one night art class for the everyday person?  For the sports enthusiast there are endless games to go to where you can cheer out loud.  Or maybe you’d like to get crazy with bumper boats or jump on that big slide!

For the truly daring who feel like self-expression is where it’s at, there’s the thrill of going to a karaoke night and actually getting on stage!  How about summoning the courage to do a duet with your date?  If singing is not your thing, try a different stage with an acting improvisation class.

If you want to explore the playing field with another, then lighten up your agenda for dating!  Before you decide to grab your Tonka toy or Barbie and scram, get in the sandbox and play with the other kids.

Playing at dating begins with your mind set.  Your attitude sets the stage!  Enjoy!
